Next Generation World
NEC technology and innovation is leading the transition to a Next Generation World. The term "next generation" refers to the changeover from the established public telephony network which has been in place for more than 125 years to a public communications infrastructure based on the Internet Protocol (IP) and Internet technology.
Next generation networks (NGNs) are intrinsically different: they support wireline and wireless telephony as well as multimedia applications such as video broadcasts. The user perception of an NGN will be that of a ubiquitous communications and computing environment.
In a Next Generation World, instead of using different devices to access different network services and applications, for example, a phone to access the corporate telephone directory, then to make a call; or a PC to access the corporate e-mail directory, then to send an e-mail; we’ll employ one preferred device: most likely it will be a wireless device as we become a mobile society.
A Next Generation World is one that is built around people. Here, content and services are delivered on-demand and in real time, to any device in any location when the person wants or needs it.
This is all supported by Next Generation Networks (NGNs) which support wireline and wireless technology as well as multimedia applications such as video broadcasts. The user perception of an NGN will be that of a ubiquitous communications and computing environment.
